Spring Meetings

The talk will examine the vulnerability of small states, particularly small islands in the Caribbean, to tropical cyclones; the economic costs they cause both in terms of direct damages (relief and reconstruction costs) and on real GDP growth; and will briefly discuss policies that could help countries lessen some of those effects. The talk will also emphasize the need to act now to prepare for the possible intensification of tropical cyclones with climate change.
